General Enquiries

Hi there.

My name is Ashley and I have decided to start my own "weekend work" type gardening business, providing general garden maintenance services for residential properties.

I have started this with the idea to make some extra money on top of my current full time job where I work 45 hours a week Monday to Friday.

I am 25 years old and quite new to this, so my questions are quite basic.

For example, apart from declaring the income with the IRD and paying my taxes, are there any other legal moves I should be making to ensure a successful sole business?

From the information I Have read on the Inland Revenue Departments website I do not require a seperate IRD number as I am running as a sole trader, and I don't plan on the business making anything over $3000 a year so I need not apply for charging and paying GST. I have no other employees apart from myself and I am fully qualified for the work.

Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Hi Ashley

Hi Ashley

Sounds like you are on the right track although we can't give you advice for your own individual business. ACC/health and safety is an area you should also investigate - particularly as you will be doing outdoor work with some equipment. If you would like to ask a more detailed question one of our experts will happily answer it for you. You need to go here to do that: http://www.bizbuzz.co.nz/node/.... Good luck with your business!
