Inland Revenue go the extra mile to help home businesses

When you are faced with a tax question, do you prefer to resolve it round the table rather than over the phone? But are you miles from the nearest Inland Revenue office? The Heartland Services initiative gets Inland Revenue out of the city and into the country, so rural home businesses can get help with a full range of personal tax and business tax issues.

ans Serif">The Heartland Services initiative is an assistance programme for provincial and rural New Zealanders. It was established by the Ministry of Social Development. For several days each month, representatives from government agencies - including Inland Revenue - visit New Zealand's smaller communities and "set up shop", giving people access to a range of government services. The Heartland Services initiative has two components: Service Centres and Outreach Services.

ans Serif">Service Centres
A Service Centre is a permanent establishment, run by a Heartland Services Coordinator who works five days a week. Different government agencies work out of the Service Centre at different times. Most stay for one to four days

each month. If you want to make an appointment at a Service Centre please contact your local centre.

ans Serif">Outreach Services
The Outreach Service involves a number of government agencies getting together and visiting remote communities once or twice a month. They operate out of community buildings like district council service centres. If you want to make an appointment with the Outreach Service please contact your local site

ans Serif">What government agencies are taking part?
Not all government agencies are involved with the Heartland Services initiative. And an agency might visit some locations, but not others.

ans Serif">What does Inland Revenue offer home businesses through the Heartland Services initiative?
Whether you go to a Service Centre or an Outreach Service site, you get the same advice as you would get by ringing Inland Revenue on the free phone services listed in the telephone book. You can get help with taxes like income tax, GST and PAYE, or advice about child support or student loans. You can ask Inland Revenue to check that you are getting your full entitlements of family assistance, or get help with overdue debt or returns.
