A real issue for self-employed people can be how much personal income fluctuates from month to month. This can make family budgeting hard, and can create difficulties in things like applying for income protection insurance or working out eligibility for loans or benefits.
The solution is two-fold: creating a “slush fund” from additional income in good months to fall back on in quiet times; and working to even out the peaks and dips in income by ensuring your marketing is consistent and regular, building several income streams in your business, encouraging customers to make repeat and/or regular purchases and keeping a close eye on cashflow.
