Hello Everyone,
My name is Gemma, a mother of one child and husband is working in IT. We are new in the country, no friends, and still in the process of making some, and im getting bored for not having a job and under qualified for a job. So I think about making my own business out of my passion. I was thinking of home baked foods to be delivered to the customer. First and foremost, I love cooking since the beginning of time. I don't have any culinary certificates or diploma and so on but I definitely have the passion for food, cooking and eating. I want to try if my idea will work. Right now i would like to venture into this kind of business. Can anyone will help me find out if its possible to make this home baked (work) food a great business idea?
my main concern is can I actually get a costumer online? Like for instance, I would like to start with lasagna. can anyone really want to order it online? , specially if the business has no physical business address. I was thinking I will cook the food in my own home kitchen and then deliver it to the customers place.

Hi Emma

If you'd eaten at our place you'd soon realise I'm at the other end of the spectrum from you - although I actually love the idea of cooking, the end result is never what it should be. So I don't tend to take a lot of notice of cooking details - but I do know it's got tougher and tougher in recent years - and that's not the food - it's the rules around food - especially preparation, etc.

So you might want to check out the rules are regs on this sort of activity. Trouble is, I don't think there's one comprehensive source of them. Your council will have runles, OSH will have rules and everyone else might have rules for all I know. I guess Google is a good starting point.

It's not just cooking that's tough - it's anything to do with producing food they seem to be out to get. There's even been talk about the new rules seriously limiting what you can do with your own produce - but of course the government says this is nothing to be feared and the conspiracy theorists say it's the end of the world as we know it.

So this is a business where you have to learn these rules before you even think about the usual business start-up hassles. I wish you well.
