Hi
I am at the business feasabiliy stage at the moment and 2 months ago secured some event photography experience with a high profile lifestyle magazine. I am really enjoying it as a fun thing to do and hope to make it profitable but I see its not going to be easy financially but its a case of looking outside the square as I see it.

You're exactly right with the 'not going to be easy financially' bit. I've been running a major sports photography website for a number of years and to be honest, I'd be better off mowing lawns.
Facebook and other free-images websites are killing us.
You get all the wannabe's turning up at your events and then posting hundreds of free (mostly horrible) images online.
The sad fact is, most magazines, newspapers, and websites will take free sub-standard images rather than pay for a professional shot.
