"Forced change" with a lot of Christchurch inner city business' carry on in the midst of the disaster from their homes are possibly coming to enjoy the fact that they don't need to go out on the traffic on the cold or wet winter mornings, returning in the dark.
There has been a move toward this practice which fits well with my sustainability thinking. Less traffic means less polution, and of course the cost saving of the fuel for the person who no longer needs to commute. Costs are reduced in many ways and research proved that people are more productive and actually work longer hours from the comfort of their home.
The future Cornerstone Eco designs for homes that we have been working on is to make sure that there is provision for an office near the entrance, far enough away from the family activity to keep that seperate from any business activities for the professional look.
From the city perspective an idea that I have put forward is to have a large area with public transport handy to access where meetings can take place rather like "the board room" that was in Hereford St, but on a larger scale. This should have internet access, varying sizes of meeting places, office supplys, computer supplies, and a variety of food outlets rather like a huge food court incorporated.
A good start to a future for Christchurch in an Eco way of living.
